Deniz Ertas van Gennip
Deniz came to Pilates through her own body's need. While studying for her second Bachelor's degree in Contemporary Dance—after first completing a degree in Psychology—she was diagnosed with mild scoliosis after months of severe lower back pain. Through regular Pilates practice, she discovered how profoundly the method could support her body, inspiring her to begin her BASI Pilates Comprehensive Teacher Training in 2015, which she completed in 2017.
Her background in Psychology deeply informs how she teaches. She understands that movement isn't just physical; it's emotional, neurological, and deeply personal. This dual training allows her to read not just bodies, but people—meeting each student where they are with patience and insight.
Deniz has specialized in working with scoliosis, pre- and postnatal bodies, osteoporosis, and pelvic floor health. She's drawn to the people who need careful, intelligent guidance—those whose bodies have specific stories and require more than generic instruction.
Her teaching style is focused, attentive, and rooted in a simple belief: exercise should bring joy, not punishment. She creates a calm, balanced atmosphere where challenge meets pleasure, and movement feels rewarding rather than overwhelming. In her classes, you'll experience full-body classical Pilates—strength, stamina, flexibility, balance, and stretching woven together in a thoughtful, natural flow.

pilates during pregnancy with hernia
I don't even know how to express the appreciation that I have for Deniz. I started with pregnancy pilates when I was 15 weeks pregnant because I am 39 years old and I have three buldging disks, so I was worried that I will have seirous issues as my pregnancy progresses. I am now 34 weeks pregnant, with absolutely no pain anywhere in my body. I feel very fit and strong. Apart from obviously being an amazing and knowledgeable pilates instructor, Deniz is a wonderful person, making every single training with her like a little positive energy booster in my day. Just entering her studio already makes me feel better. I can't wait to continue training after I give birth! If you want to feel physically and mentally good in your pregnancy (and outside), Deniz is a person to go to!

I've been practicing with Deniz since April 2024, and it has really transformed my life! Living with scoliosis and having had two surgeries in the past, I used to deal with a lot of pain and limited mobility.
